Provoke Hope

In an age of division, potential environmental collapse and political instability, it’s easy to feel that change is too far away or impossible. Art can hold up a mirror, tell a story, or plant a seed to that changes minds and spurs action. Provoke Hope is a campaign and event series featuring art, music and projects with a purpose to wake up and shake up.
Our goal is to lift up stories, voices and artists that are questioning the dominant narrative and instigating action towards positive social change. Join us for the second event in the Provoke Hope series and learn more at www.provoke-hope.com

Music:

New Spell
Dark indie-pop with haunting vocals, this SF Bay Area project creates dynamic, cerebral music covering themes relating to the passage of time, the human mind, and current socio-cultural topics. The unifying force behind New Spell's sound is songwriter Leanne Kelly's airy vocals and synth-centered songwriting. Drums by Jacob Frautschi and electronic bass embellish compelling layers of sound in a uniquely captivating style.

Provoke Hope Launch

In an age of division, potential environmental collapse and political instability, it’s easy to feel that change is too far away or impossible. Art can hold up a mirror, tell a story, or plant a seed to that changes minds and spurs action. #provokehope is a campaign to tell a new story about the future and share the work of artists, visionaries and activists who are creating a better world and defying the dominant narrative that change is impossible. Join us for a celebration bringing together local artists, musicians and writers for an evening to #provokehope.

Music:

Tess Posner
Tess Posner began singing in coffee-houses as a teenager. In 2017, her passion for music reignited and she began writing songs for the first time. Her music has been called “addictive, haunting and unapologetically honest” and her songwriting is often inspired by experiences in her years as an activist and entrepreneur. Tess is launching #provokehope in conjunction with her upcoming single “New Angels.” The title New Angels was inspired by a 1920 Paul Klee painting called New Angel (Angelus Novus), depicting the "angel of history" caught in a “storm of progress" moving from a violent, dark past to a better future.

Elizabeth Lubin
Elizabeth Lubin is a songwriter, pianist, and guitarist originally from New York and currently based out of Oakland, Ca. In 2018, after spending about a year writing and performing solo around the East Bay she was inspired by some old soul classics to record a 4-song live EP in early 2019. "Live at Santo" was recorded in front a small studio audience at Santo Recording Studio in Oakland Ca with Paul Korte. The resulting recordings were magical and yet still only a fraction of what beautiful energy was emitted from stage to audience and back that night. The songwriting is soulful and deep, with plenty of space left for contemplation, the instrumentation is tasteful and rootsy, inspired by old folk ballads and cosmic crooners of old.
